Firstly apologises for missing last weeks Loving the Library, as some of you may know I've needed to take a step back for a week or so. Posts here and here might explain things better. But not to worry here I am and here we are with this weeks Loving the Library.
*****************************
I don't know about others but the one thing I do find worrying at borrowing library supplies particularly stuff for the kids, is damage being done to materials we've borrowed (mainly books and DVD's). As I really don't want to have to foot the bill for replacements. So I thought I would give a brief run down on what I do to care for borrowed library items.
* Books, DVD's and other borrowed materials are always transported from home to library in a bag, not only to keep them together, but so a stray doesn't go missing during transport.
* Children's books and DVD's are kept high on our bookshelf.

* Children's books and DVD's are kept high on our bookshelf.
* We have a general rule that children's library books are only allowed to come off the shelf with an adult. However our home library is a different thing which they can access freely at any point.
Treating the borrowed library books in such a way reinforces the fact that you must be careful with others belongings, in my opinion.
* The printed docket of our borrowed items, always remains on the side of our fridge. So that at a glance I have a check list on hand to ensure I have all books and materials gathered for return on our next visit.
Simple suggestions but nonetheless food for thought. I know some families who have a special library book basket, which is taken in and out the home for library visits. With the rule and provision for their children being that books and materials must always be returned to the basket. If the rule is broken they lose their borrowing privilege of "new" books for the next visit. A valid and fair suggestion for older children perhaps to consider, to reinforce responsibility. However my children being 3 years old and 15 months respectively, I find our system suitable especially with a 15 month old who likes to tear things.
Do you have a system or household rules for caring file borrowed library supplies?
